In recent years several Ontario colleges have unveiled brand new and world-class skilled trades facilities designed to engage and train the next generation of trades professionals.

Equipped with classrooms and labs featuring cutting-edge technology, these facilities are designed to help prospective tradespeople develop an advanced understanding of their craft and hit the ground running upon graduation.

Conestoga Skilled Trades Campus (CSTC)

Opened in the fall of 2022, the CSTC – or Reuter Drive Campus – comes in at more than 320,000 square feet. You’ll be in awe upon approaching the facility’s façade, with its massive steel columns and towering windows.

Inside, you’ll find an expansive lobby, shops, and cafeteria followed by lines of classrooms and labs featuring a vast spectrum of high-tech trades equipment. There’s even a games room, complete with air hockey table and foosball, for trades students to enjoy between classes.

Mohawk College Centre for Aviation Technology

Mohawk College established itself as a regional leader in aviation technology and education when it opened its Centre for Aviation Technology in 2021. A 75,000 square-foot complex, it brings all the college’s diverse aviation programs into a single facility outfitted with state-of-the-art labs and classrooms.

Students lucky enough to participate in classes here have access to roughly 20 aircraft of various sizes. Built in collaboration with KF Aerospace, Canada’s largest commercial maintenance and repair provider, the Mohawk College Centre for Aviation Technology is expected to train aerospace skilled trades professionals for decades to come.

Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC)

Fleming College Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC)

An architectural gem, the KTTC is an 87,000 square-foot trades training facility located at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus in Peterborough.

The KTTC’s flexible learning environments are home to full- and part-time trades programs, apprenticeship programs, dual credit high school courses, and contract training. It features bright classrooms and comfortable social and meeting spaces.

The centrepiece of the KTTC is the Skills Arena, a large, naturally lit space in which students from various trades programs learn together in an integrated setting. A three-storey structure within the Skills Arena, called the Kube, is itself an educational tool. The structure enables students to see and understand how different components and trades are related and interdependent during stages of a construction project.

You can learn more about the KTTC by visiting the Fleming College website.
